Part 1: Dorothea Lange; title: Japanese relocation, California. Ester Naite, an office worker from Los Angeles, is shown operating an electric iron in her quarters at Manzanar, California, a War Relocation Authority center where evacuees of Japanese ancestry will spend the duration. Miss Naito works in an office at the center
The character is a woman
She is thinking about all the housework she is doing and still has left to finish
She feels overwhelmed yet continues to focus on one task at a time
The character is in her house doing housework which was considered her profession at the time. The setting shows the life the character is living as she is stuck inside doing house work.
The woman is ironing some clothing and probably will continue to iron lots of clothes and clean.
Overall, this image shares the story of a young woman who is inside doing house work as she lives in the Japanese Relocation Center. The image shows her everyday life of doing house work like ironing clothing and how she spends her time doing that.
Activity 2
Part 1: Adde Adesokan · Street Photography
The character is an older man who is holding a violin
He is looking straight into the camera's lens and thinking about his meaning in life and how music has impacted him
He is feeling hope that people will listen to him play and he hopes to bring some people a little joy through his music
The man is outside on the streets which shows that he is a street player and plays for strangers walking by hoping to attract the attention of some.
The photo shows the man staring straight at the camera with a soft smile and his eyes speak to you as if drawing you in. He is holding a violin and standing in a relaxed position, though he keeps his violin close.
The story is about how he enjoys music and spends his time playing violin for people to hear. It shows that he has probably dedicated a great amount of time into the instrument and hopes that some people will appreciate him.
Activity 3: Capture Caring
Part 1: Photo of the man in black and white The story is that there is an older man who is alone and perhaps forgotten. As he wanders around town to all these different spots he continues to be alone and sad. He is older and forgotten so he's often left all by himself with no one noticing in the world around him. He acts as if he is searching for someone or something yet he never seems to find it. Each photograph tells a part of the story as it shows him sitting alone and walking around the city. The pictures show his movement of location often yet he always ends up alone. He sits alone, he walks alone, and he seems to be away from strangers as no other people are in his pictures. The black and white photographs help show the somber and serious mood that this man is sad to be alone.
ACTIVITY 4
Part 1: The story is about a little boy saying good bye to his grandfather as he passes away and goes to heaven as an angel.
Yes, though multiple photos are needed the story could still be clear as long as the main points were shown of the grandfather getting his angel wings and leaving.
I would choose to remove the second photo because it is simply a transition photo and the story can still be told without it. The other photos have more of an effect on the story and couldn't be removed. The grandfather can simply go from lying down as he passes away to being an angel with wings at the bedside beside the boy.
ACTIVITY 5
My 10 photos
My 3 Photo Story
My photographs tell the story of friendship in high school. They show two best friends who do everything together in school and always have fun. The story shows how close they are and how they are always smiling and laughing.
Nicole Donnelly's photos
The photos I chose for Nicole's story
I chose these photos to tell the story of a girl who spends most of her time along studying. They images show her interest in books and reading. They also show her always alone in a seeming empty school as if she's in her own world.
REview
1. My idea for this story was to show friendship of two girls in high school who do everything together from studying to roaming the halls. 2. Yes the editor selected good photos that show my intended story of friendship. We chose the same photo for one of them. I put it first in my sequence and she put it last in her sequence. Our other two photos were different though they both work well to show the friendship of the two people. 3. The editor brightened the photos and increased the contrast. Also, she balanced the colors out so it had more cool tones than warm. 4. Yes I like the way they were edited. I typically go for warm colors with yellow tones but I like the cool colors that the editor used. 5. It's hard giving control of your story to an editor when you have a strict story in mind. It is important to keep an open mind because the editor will probably have a slightly different idea. 6/7. I chose these three photographs because they showed the laughter and smiles between two friends. Through different activities during school it showed that they were always having a good time together. I felt my three photos captured the overall essence of the fun friendship the girls have.
